Makwanpur Administration Urges Attention to Food Safety and Consumer Rights

Bagmati: The District Administration Office, Makwanpur, has urged businesses and all concerned authorities to ensure food security, hygiene and consumer rights amid changes in traffic routes following the blockage of the Prithvi Highway.

The Krishna Bhir section of the highway in Dhading has been blocked by floods and landslides, prompting authorities to divert traffic through the Tribhuvan Highway and Kanti Highway.

The Makwanpur administration has urged hotels, restaurants, shops and other businesses along the highways and alternative routes to ensure food safety, maintain hygiene and protect consumer rights.

In a notice issued by Administrative Officer Santosh Subedi, the administration said complaints have been received that some businesses are taking advantage of travelers by charging excessive prices, failing to display price lists, and selling or distributing substandard, inedible, and unhealthy food.

The administration has warned of strict action against businesses and vendors found violating consumer rights.

According to the administration, cargo and large passenger vehicles heading towards Kathmandu will use the Tribhuvan Rajpath and return through the Kanti Highway. Small passenger vehicles will travel to and from Kathmandu through the Bhimphedi–Kulekhani route to ensure smoother, safer and more organized traffic movement.

The administration has also urged passengers and consumers to obtain bills or receipts for their purchases, check displayed price lists, and immediately report irregularities to the nearest police station or the District Administration Office.
