Foreign Minister Khanal meets Brazilian Ambassador Lins to strengthen bilateral ties

KATHMANDU, Aug 24 — Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal met with Brazilian Ambassador to Nepal Claudio Raja Gabaglia Lins on Monday for a courtesy call at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding tourism, and promoting cultural exchange.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Khanal congratulated Ambassador Lins on his appointment and highlighted the long-standing, cordial relationship between Nepal and Brazil. He emphasized the broad potential for mutual collaboration, particularly in tourism, cultural initiatives, and people-to-people connections.

Minister Khanal also briefed Ambassador Lins on the current government’s key priorities and praised Brazil’s leadership role in global governance, especially within South-South cooperation.

In response, Ambassador Lins commended the hospitality and rich cultural heritage of Nepal, noting that bilateral ties remain strong as the two nations celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.

Ambassador Lins highlighted ongoing technical cooperation between both countries, including:

• Agricultural Collaboration: A technical team from Brazil recently visited Nepal to advance cooperation in dairy production, with Nepali authorities reviewing and returning a formal memorandum of understanding to the Brazilian side.
• Medical Research: Kathmandu University and Brazil’s Butantan Institute are actively collaborating on research for snakebite antivenom treatments.

Ambassador Lins reaffirmed Brazil’s readiness to partner with Nepal in alignment with government priorities, specifically in promoting tourism, investment, and export trade.
