Government preparing to decentralize land administration services to all local levels within a month: PM Shah

KATHMANDU — Prime Minister Balendra Shah has announced that the government is expediting preparations to transfer land administration services to all local government levels across the country within the next month.

In a public statement regarding the administrative rollout, Prime Minister Shah emphasized that a core principle of a federal democratic republic is narrowing the distance between the state and its citizens. He noted that the ultimate objective is not merely requiring citizens to travel to distant offices, but ensuring that necessary government services are brought directly to the people as part of the administration’s 100-point governance reform agenda.

The initiative is being implemented in accordance with the Constitution of Nepal, the Local Government Operation Act of 2017, and the Ordinance to Amend Certain Nepal Acts Related to Land of 2026. While land administration services are currently operational in 33 local units, the government has resolved to make service delivery mandatory across all remaining local tiers within a month, with full federal logistical and technical support committed to local authorities.

“With this initiative, local governments will be able to fully exercise their constitutional and legal authority over land administration,” Prime Minister Shah stated. The administration expects the policy to make land revenue and survey services simpler, more accessible, and more convenient for the public while systematically dismantling centralized bureaucratic barriers.
