Dhaulagiri Campus Boosts Hostel Facilities to Attract Students
Baglung, Aug 17: Dhaulagiri Multiple Campus in Baglung has expanded its hostel infrastructure for male and female students as part of efforts to attract more students amid declining enrolment.
The campus is currently constructing a hostel for male students with financial support from Tribhuvan University. The Rs 35 million facility will accommodate up to 70 students and is nearing completion.
Campus Chief Dr Sudarshan Silwal said the hostel is being developed to encourage students from remote and economically disadvantaged communities to pursue higher education at the campus. Tribhuvan University has set criteria for selecting students eligible for free accommodation.
The campus has been providing hostel facilities to female students for the past three years. The Rs 30 million girls’ hostel currently accommodates 42 students.
Once the new boys’ hostel comes into operation, another 70 students will have access to accommodation. Students living in the hostels are required to pay only cleaning charges.
Dhaulagiri Multiple Campus serves students not only from Baglung but also from neighbouring districts including Mustang, Myagdi and Parbat. Campus officials said inadequate accommodation facilities had previously prompted some students to choose colleges in Pokhara and Kathmandu.
Hostel Coordinator Hiralal Regmi said the expanded facilities would provide students from remote and underprivileged communities with a more suitable environment for higher education.
The campus currently has around 2,200 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Despite a decline in enrolment in recent years, the campus has continued efforts to improve its infrastructure and attract students.
