Law Minister stresses need for laws reflecting people’s aspirations

Chitwan: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam has stressed the need to amend laws in line with the people’s aspirations to support development and effective governance.

Speaking to local journalists today, Minister Gautam said laws should reflect public expectations rather than the preferences of political leaders, adding that development goals cannot be achieved without an enabling legal framework.

She said the government has declared the current fiscal year 2083/84 as the Year of Legal Reform, under which 166 laws are to be enacted.

The minister also said laws that obstruct development and public service delivery will be amended without delay. She added that the proposed changes to the civil service’s 30-year service tenure and 55-year retirement age are currently under process.
