Fourth Labour Force Survey Underway Across Nepal

Kathmandu, July 13: The National Statistics Office (NSO) has begun the country’s fourth Labour Force Survey to gather updated information on employment, unemployment and labour market trends across Nepal.

The nationwide survey is designed to measure the size of the working-age population, employment status, labour force participation and the overall condition of the country’s labour market.

NSO Spokesperson Dhundiraj Lamichhane said field-level data collection has been continuing for the past five months to capture seasonal changes in employment and their impact. The survey is expected to be completed by February–March 2027.

According to the Office, the survey will provide comprehensive information on employment and unemployment, the nature of work, education and skill levels of the workforce, as well as the incidence of child labour, forced labour and hazardous occupations.

Enumerators have already collected data from around 18,000 households across all seven provinces.

Nepal conducted its first Labour Force Survey in 2055/56 BS, followed by the second in 2064/65 BS and the third in 2074/75 BS. The latest survey is expected to provide updated data to support labour and employment policy formulation and planning.
