Shuklaphanta Uses AI-Based X-ray System for Tuberculosis Detection

Kanchanpur, May 12: Shuklaphanta Municipality has begun using artificial intelligence (AI)-based portable X-ray technology to identify tuberculosis (TB) cases in the community.

As part of the initiative, screening camps were conducted in high-risk areas, including wards 1, 5, and 8, targeting individuals who may have remained undiagnosed. The programme aims to improve early detection and timely treatment of TB patients through modern diagnostic tools.

According to Chief of the Health Section at the municipality, Paramananda Bhatta, the camps were held at Pitambar Health Post in ward 8, Basic Health Centre in ward 5, and Urban Health Centre in ward 1. A medical team comprising doctors and health workers carried out the screenings using AI-supported portable X-ray machines.

A total of 688 individuals were tested during the campaign. Of them, 42 were identified as suspected TB cases and referred to Mahakali Provincial Hospital for further examination through GeneXpert testing.

Bhatta said the AI-enabled system helps detect possible tuberculosis infections through digital analysis of X-ray images, making diagnosis more efficient than conventional methods. He added that the technology also helps identify at-risk patients even before sputum-based tests are conducted.
