Former Govt Employee Turns to Goat Farming in Myagdi, Finds Success in Agribusiness
Myagdi, May 5: A former government employee from Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality has shifted to goat farming and built a successful small-scale agribusiness.
Bhuwani Poudel, who worked as an office assistant at the Agriculture Development Office in Beni for over a decade on contract, left his job to pursue self-employment. He established the Bagar Agriculture and Livestock Multipurpose Farm, starting with just nine goats. The farm now has more than 60 goats.
Poudel earns around Rs 500,000 annually by selling 30 to 40 goats, with buyers visiting the farm directly. Alongside livestock, he has expanded into commercial farming of oranges and vegetables, with plans to increase citrus production.
He said farming offers greater satisfaction than foreign employment or contract work. His farm includes Jamunapari and Boer breed goats, supported by fodder cultivation and basic infrastructure.
With support from his wife Bhagawati, Poudel hopes to expand further and has called for greater government assistance in developing farm facilities.
