Chinese Ambassador Zhang pays courtesy call on Minister Chaudhary

Kathmandu: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Agriculture, Forest and Environment, Gita Chaudhary, at the Ministry on Friday.

Issues of reinforcing Nepal-China cooperation on agriculture, livestock, fishery, forest and environment featured significantly during the meeting.

Modernisation and mechanisation of agriculture, enforcement of bilateral agreements, promotion of agricultural trade, disease control, transfer of technology, and technological cooperation were dwelt on by the two dignitaries, according to Minister Chaudhary’s secretariat.

The Minister expected assistance from the Chinese government to expand access to Nepal’s high-value agricultural products to Chinese markets. She also sought cooperation from the Chinese side in resolving problems relating to transport of yaks in the border area of Taplejung.

In response, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Zhang, expressed commitment to continued support to Nepal in its economic development.

The areas to expand assistance were agriculture, forest, climate change adaptation, technology transfer, investment promotion and human resource development, he added.
