Manohara riverbank informal settlement demolition continues in Bhaktapur

April 27, Kathmandu: The demolition of unauthorized structures in the informal settlement along the Manohara River in Bhaktapur continued on Monday.
Authorities resumed the operation early in the morning, deploying 13 excavators to remove the remaining houses. The settlement, which has around 800 huts and makeshift homes, saw about 60 percent of its structures demolished on Sunday.
Police personnel, along with municipal police from the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, have been mobilized to support the clearance drive.
Superintendent of Police Surya Bahadur Khadka, chief of the District Police Office, Bhaktapur, said the demolition began after most residents had removed their belongings and vacated the structures.
The government launched the drive a few days ago as part of its ongoing campaign to clear riverbanks and reclaim high-risk public and government land across the Kathmandu Valley.
