KMC launches night bus service in Kathmandu Valley

Kathmandu, April 14: Kathmandu Metropolitan City is set to introduce a night passenger bus service from today to ease travel difficulties during late hours.

The service will begin at 7:00 pm from Pulchowk. According to Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol, electric buses will be operated in the first phase in coordination with Sajha Yatayat Cooperative Limited.

Two routes have been designated: Lagankhel–Budhanilkantha and Thankot–Tribhuvan International Airport via Satungal. The Lagankhel–Budhanilkantha route covers around 16 kilometres, while the Thankot–airport route spans about 20 kilometres. A total of four buses will operate on these routes.

The buses will run until 11:00 pm, departing every 20 minutes from designated stops. The initiative aims to address the shortage of public transport after 8:00 pm, which often leads to higher travel costs.

KMC has stated that the service will be made safe and reliable, with CCTV cameras installed in buses and city police deployed for security.
