Nepal condemns attacks on UAE, Minister Khanal reaffirms solidarity

April 7, Kathmandu: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal held a telephone conversation on Tuesday evening with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

During the call, Sheikh Abdullah extended congratulations to Minister Khanal, who expressed appreciation for the gesture. The two leaders also exchanged views on the evolving situation in West Asia.

According to the ministry, Minister Khanal conveyed Nepal’s solidarity with the UAE and strongly condemned attacks on its sovereign territory, including those targeting civilians and key infrastructure such as energy facilities, ports, and airports. He also referred to the death of a young Nepali national and injuries sustained by 24 others in the recent incidents.

Emphasising Nepal’s position, the Foreign Minister stated that war cannot be an alternative to peace and that sustainable solutions must come through diplomacy and dialogue.

For his part, Sheikh Abdullah appreciated Nepal’s support and reaffirmed the UAE government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, including Nepali nationals. He also assured continued assistance to the Nepali community amid ongoing tensions.

Nepal and the UAE share close and growing bilateral ties, particularly in labour cooperation, trade, and people-to-people relations. The Gulf nation remains a key destination for Nepali workers, contributing significantly to Nepal’s remittance inflows and broader economic engagement.
