Ministry of Agriculture Resumes Farmer Registration After Five Months

Kathmandu, April 5 – The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has resumed the registration of farmers after a five-month pause.

Registered farmers will receive various services, subsidies, and identity cards, including access to chemical fertilisers, seeds, and other agricultural benefits, said Mahananda Joshi, Information Officer at the Ministry.

The registration system is coordinated with local authorities nationwide to identify genuine farmers and compile integrated data, such as cultivated land area, production details, and other relevant information.

According to the Agricultural Census 2078, out of 4.1 million farmers in Nepal, 2.3 million have already been registered. Farmers are urged to enrol at their local government offices, the Ministry said.

Farmers are classified into four categories—subsistence, small, medium, and large—based on landholding, income, and farm production, explained Sanjeev Pandit, an officer at the Agriculture Information and Training Centre under the Ministry.

This registration drive aims to ensure that government support reaches genuine farmers and strengthens the planning and delivery of agricultural services across the country.
