Former Kathmandu CDO Chhabi Rijal Arrested in Connection with Gen-Z Protest Probe
Kathmandu, March 31 — Former Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu, Chhabi Rijal, was arrested on Tuesday morning from his residence in Koteshwor by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.
Rijal, who was serving as the CDO of the Kathmandu District Administration Office during the Gen-Z protests held on September 8 and 9, 2025, was taken into custody following recommendations made by the Karki Commission. The commission was formed to investigate the incidents surrounding the protests.
According to Superintendent of Police Manohar Prasad Bhatta, Rijal will be handed over to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation.
The arrest comes days after police detained former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on March 27 in connection with the same incident.
