144,000 Metric Tons of Chemical Fertilizers in Stock: Agriculture Ministry
Kathmandu, May 19: The Ministry of Agriculture, Forest and Environment has said that 144,803.25 metric tons of chemical fertilizers are currently in stock across the country.
Speaking at a press conference in Kathmandu today, Chief of the Agricultural Development Division and Joint Secretary Dr Ramkrishna Shrestha said there is no shortage of fertilizers at present as the available stock is being distributed to farmers.
He stated that the arrival of additional fertilizers has been delayed due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. However, he expressed confidence that 491,000 metric tons of fertilizers would arrive once the obstruction in the Strait of Hormuz is cleared.
The ministry also said fertilizer prices have increased compared to last year because of the conflict in West Asia.
Joint Secretary Shrestha urged farmers to use organic fertilizers as much as possible to help protect soil health.
