Govt to Form High-Powered Panel to Probe Assets Within 15 Days
Kathmandu, March 28: The government has announced plans to form a high-powered Property Investigation Committee within 15 days as part of its governance reform agenda aimed at curbing corruption and ensuring accountability.
According to the plan unveiled on Friday, the committee will include experts from legal, financial, revenue and investigative fields, along with representatives of concerned agencies. It will be tasked with examining hidden assets, addressing corruption and ending the culture of impunity.
In the first phase, the committee will collect, verify and investigate the property details of office-bearers of major political parties and senior government officials who have held public positions from 2062/63 BS (2006/07) to the present fiscal year 2082/83 BS (2025/26).
The second phase will focus on reviewing the assets of individuals who held similar public offices between 1991 and 2004/05.
The government has stated that the investigation process will be carried out impartially, in line with existing laws and based on evidence. Reports and recommendations submitted by the committee will be implemented through the relevant authorities.
Additionally, a restructuring plan for the National Vigilance Centre will be prepared and enforced within 30 days to strengthen good governance, control corruption, and improve transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
