Tourism minister vows heritage-focused growth, transparency in work
Newly appointed Khadak Raj Paudel has said that the foundation of national prosperity begins from the ministry itself.
Assuming office on Friday, Minister Paudel described the tourism sector as both a personal interest and a challenging portfolio. Drawing on his experience as a writer and trekker, he highlighted his familiarity with issues facing the industry. He emphasized that development initiatives must keep people at the centre and outlined plans to promote Nepal’s tourism by protecting both tangible and intangible heritage, linking trekking routes to religious sites across the country.
Minister Paudel called for collective decision-making among ministry employees and stressed merit-based performance evaluation. He urged staff to act not just as employees, but as active campaigners for the sector’s development. Plans include restructuring the Tourism Board, creating a private sector-friendly environment, improving air connectivity, and investing in tourism infrastructure.
He also pledged transparency in all activities. Ministry Secretary Mukunda Prasad Niraula, department heads, and staff welcomed the Minister, briefing him on the ministry’s current status, policies, and plans.
