Nepal’s foreign policy to remain unchanged, says FM Khanal
Kathmandu, March 27: Newly appointed Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has assured that Nepal’s foreign policy will remain consistent despite the change in government. Speaking to the media after assuming office on Friday, Minister Khanal emphasized that the nation’s foreign policy, as enshrined in the Constitution, prioritizes sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests. He reaffirmed Nepal’s long-standing non-aligned stance and pledged its continuity.
Minister Khanal highlighted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is actively monitoring the recent conflicts in West Asia, having collected data on over 80,000 Nepali migrant workers. He added that the Ministry is taking proactive diplomatic measures to ensure their safety and is prepared to implement additional measures if the situation escalates.
Emphasizing Nepal’s identity as a peace-loving nation and the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, Khanal urged conflicting parties to resolve disputes peacefully and reiterated this appeal to the international community.
The Foreign Minister also stated that the current government prioritizes good governance and economic prosperity, and the Ministry will focus on effective public service delivery and economic diplomacy to support national development.
Khanal, elected from Kathmandu-6 for a second consecutive term, previously served as Minister for Education, Science and Technology, and has a background in advocating for public education reforms.
