Kathmandu University ranked 122nd in global HE ranking
Kathmandu, March 24:
Kathmandu University has secured the 122nd position among 507 universities from 95 countries in the HE Higher Education Ranking 2026, conducted by a US-based organisation.
The ranking assessed institutions using 136 indicators under 25 criteria, focusing on the operational performance of emerging universities across South Asia, South America and Eastern Europe.

According to the ranking body, the evaluation emphasises how universities function in practice rather than relying on reputation. It measures areas such as policy implementation, institutional processes, service delivery, outputs and outcomes.
The 2026 report noted that Kathmandu University has shown strong potential in resource and infrastructure management, academic transparency and forward-looking planning.
Indicators used in the assessment include inclusiveness, sustainable development, accountability, research environment, campus safety, internationalisation, academic integrity and digital access.
The ranking aims to support improvements in teaching, research, governance, equity and societal impact.
In a message to the university, ranking secretary Noura Abduljalil said the recognition reflects the collective efforts of KU’s leadership, faculty, staff, students and alumni, as well as its commitment to academic excellence and innovation.
Prof. Dr. Hem Raj Kafle, Director of the Academic Excellence Directorate at the university, said the report offers useful insights into KU’s operational systems and will help in preparing for participation in other global rankings.
