Displaced Families End 210-Day Protest Over Shuklaphanta National Park Resettlement

Kanchanpur, March 9 — Families displaced by the expansion of Shuklaphanta National Park ended their 210-day-long protest on Monday.

The decision came after newly elected Dipakraj Bohora, Member of the House of Representatives of Nepal, pledged to take initiatives to develop a permanent resettlement plan for the affected families.

The displaced residents, who were relocated during the expansion of the former Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve, had been demanding long-term resettlement and had recently staged a sit-in at Banhara in Krishnapur Municipality-2.

MP Bohora assured that the issue would be prioritized and a concrete resettlement plan would be developed after reviewing reports from previous commissions. “I will explore solutions through further discussions and interactions with you,” he said.

Prem Dutta Bhatta, chair of the Wildlife Displaced Struggle Committee, said the protest was called off after the families expressed confidence in MP Bohora’s commitment to resolving their concerns.
