Over 11,000 Quintals of Paddy Procured from Farmers in Dhanusha, Mahottari

Mahendranagar (Dhanusha), March 1 — The Food Management and Trade Company Limited, Madhes Province Office in Janakpurdham, has procured 11,665 quintals of paddy from farmers in Dhanusha and Mahottari districts over the past three months.

Provincial Office Chief Nirmal Thapa said the paddy, worth Rs 42.324 million, was purchased from around 300 farmers in the two districts. The procurement drive has now been halted after the company’s warehouse reached full capacity.

The company purchased paddy at a support price of Rs 3,628.33 per quintal. According to Assistant Manager Ganga Prasad Sah, farmers turned up in large numbers to sell their produce as the government-set price was higher than the prevailing market rate.

To ensure wider participation, the company fixed a ceiling of 50 quintals per farmer.

Farmers from Laxminiya Rural Municipality, Nagarain Municipality and Kshireshwornath Municipality in Dhanusha, as well as Balwa Municipality in Mahottari, accounted for the majority of the sellers.

The office had set a target to procure 13,000 quintals of paddy in the current fiscal year.
