Buddha’s teachings continue to guide the world towards peace: Minister Khanal

May 1, Kathmandu: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal has said that the teachings and guidance of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha have delivered a timeless message of peace to the world.
Speaking at a programme organised by Suryodaya Yoga Meditation Centre at Loktantrik Udyan in Manmaiju, Tarkeshwar Municipality–10, on the occasion of the 2570th Buddha Jayanti, Minister Khanal expressed confidence that Buddha’s message of peace, compassion, and friendship would continue to illuminate people’s lives.
He noted that being the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, revered globally as a symbol of peace, is a matter of great pride for all Nepalis.
The 2570th birth anniversary of Siddhartha Gautama, widely known as an apostle of peace, is being observed today with prayers, offerings, and discourses.
Buddha Jayanti is celebrated every year on the full moon day of Baishakh Shukla Paksha. The festival commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana (passing away) of Gautama Buddha, all of which are believed to have occurred on the same day. On this occasion, Buddhists in Nepal and around the world pay heartfelt homage with deep reverence and devotion.
