Imports Through Birgunj Customs Surge by 15% in Six Months
Birgunj, Jan 26: Imports through the Birgunj customs point have seen significant growth in the first six months of the current fiscal year 2082/83. Goods worth Rs 438.21 billion were brought into the country during this period, marking a 15.3% increase compared to Rs 380.6 billion in the same period last year, officials reported.
Udaya Singh Bista, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, highlighted the strong rise in the import of goods and commodities through the gateway over the past six months.
Among the key imports, petroleum products accounted for Rs 90.6 billion, while iron and iron goods totaled Rs 39.3 billion. Other major imports included machinery and auto parts, soybean oil, and electrical machinery and appliances.
The surge reflects growing trade activity through the Birgunj customs point, one of the country’s main entry points for essential goods.
