Home Ministry Urges Respectful Use of National Flag

Kathmandu, Jan 25: The Ministry of Home Affairs has called on the public to uphold the pride and dignity of the national flag and to ensure its use strictly in accordance with existing laws.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry warned that misuse of the national flag is punishable under the law. It noted that, as per the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, election candidates are allowed to use a maximum of 10 national flags during rallies, mass meetings, corner assemblies and other campaign-related programmes.

The Ministry also stressed that the national flag must not be used in any manner that disrespects or defames it, nor in contexts or places deemed inappropriate from the perspective of public morality and decorum.

It further stated that the Procedures for the Use of the National Flag and National Anthem, 2069 are currently in force to ensure the flag is used in a systematic, dignified and respectful manner. The Chief District Officer has been authorised to monitor and ensure compliance with these procedures.
