UN Resident Coordinator Hanaa Singer-Hamdy receives Recognition Award 2025

January 19, Kathmandu: The Ambassadors Club Nepal has honoured United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRC) to Nepal, Hanaa Singer-Hamdy, with the Recognition Award 2025, acknowledging her distinguished leadership and long-standing contribution to Nepal’s development journey.
The award was presented during a special ceremony held on Monday at the Ambassadors Club Nepal office in Bishalnagar. Announcing the honour, Ambassadors Club President Ambassador Dr Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal said the recognition reflects Singer-Hamdy’s dedication, leadership, and meaningful impact on development cooperation in Nepal.
“In recognition of her distinguished leadership, dedicated service, and lasting contribution to Nepal’s development journey, the Ambassadors Club Nepal is proud to present the Recognition Award 2025 to Her Excellency Hanaa Singer-Hamdy,” said Dr. Dhakal, a former ambassador to Spain and Oman.
On behalf of the Club, Pushkar Sapkota, Law and Human Rights Secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, formally presented the award.
This marks the first-ever award instituted by the Ambassadors Club Nepal, which plans to honour ambassadors, diplomats, and senior officials of international organisations annually. According to the Club, the award underscores its commitment to strengthening development cooperation and promoting positive change in Nepal. The recipient is selected by a jury committee of the Club.
Receiving the award, Singer-Hamdy expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ambassadors Club and its leadership.
“Thank you very much for honouring me. This is truly amazing—always so graceful and so appreciative,” she said.
Reflecting on her long association with the country, Singer-Hamdy described Nepal as her “Maitighar” (mother’s home).
“I have been coming to Nepal since 1997. I have visited seven or eight times and lived and worked here for nearly six years. I have travelled to more than 54 districts, and each journey has been deeply emotional,” she said.
She added that Nepal holds a unique magic that continually draws her back, noting that the warmth and resilience of its people are at the heart of that magic.
The ceremony was attended by ambassadors, diplomats, senior Government of Nepal officials, representatives of diplomatic missions, and private sector leaders.
Founded as a non-profit and non-partisan platform, the Ambassadors Club Nepal serves as a space for diplomatic engagement, fostering friendship, trust, and meaningful dialogue among diplomatic missions.
