Maghi Cultural Festival Launched in Dang
Deukhuri (Dang), Jan 3: Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Chet Narayan Acharya has emphasized that preserving culture is a shared responsibility of all citizens.
Inaugurating the Maghi Cultural Festival2082 (Tharu Sambat 2649), organised by the Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha, Dang, the Chief Minister stated that Lumbini Province is home to diverse castes, cultures, and traditions, and the provincial government is committed to the inclusive development of all communities.
Describing the province as “a single garland,” CM Acharya said that while different communities have their own unique customs and attire, unity in diversity remains Nepal’s defining identity. He expressed satisfaction that the Tharu community, often referred to as the sons of the soil, has successfully preserved its cultural heritage and stressed the need to further promote it for economic and commercial benefits.
He informed that a Tharu Cultural Museum has been established in Chakhaura, Dang with provincial government support, noting that it has emerged as an attraction for both domestic and international visitors. According to him, the provincial government is implementing various initiatives to safeguard and promote Tharu culture.
Former Chief Minister Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary, former lawmaker Shanta Chaudhary, Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Narulal Chaudhary and other dignitaries extended their best wishes during the event.
The festival featured traditional performances including Maghauta, Chokra and Hurdungya dances, along with Dhumri songs. Earlier, a cultural procession showcasing Tharu traditional costumes and tableaux was taken out across the main areas of Ghorahi ahead of the inauguration.
