Cold Wave Disrupts Life in Nawalpur for Three Days

Nawalpur, Dec 30: Residents of Nawalpur have been grappling with harsh winter conditions as a cold wave has affected daily life in the district since Sunday evening. Thick fog and frost have blanketed the area, creating difficulties for commuting and outdoor activities in this southern interior region of Nepal.

The drop in temperature, coupled with persistent fog and mist, has forced locals to stay indoors except for essential tasks. Kishor Lamsal, a grocery shop owner in Gaindakot, said customer turnout has significantly declined due to the cold. “People are avoiding going out because of the intense chill, making it difficult for us to run the shop,” he said.

In response to the freezing conditions, residents have started lighting fires at street intersections to stay warm. Khugendra Kandel of Gaindakot-2 appealed to local authorities to ensure adequate arrangements for city dwellers during the prolonged cold. Manoj KC of Gaindakot-1 noted that the cold wave this year has been harsher and longer than in previous years, with four consecutive days without sunlight adding to the severity.

Deputy Chief District Officer Chiranjibi Rana assured that there is enough firewood available in local forests for distribution. “We have informed municipalities to request firewood as needed, but so far no specific requests have been received,” he said.

The cold wave is expected to continue, and authorities are monitoring the situation to support residents through the severe winter spell.
