22 Parties Contest All 110 PR Seats Ahead of HoR Polls
Kathmandu, Dec 30: Ahead of the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5, 2026, 22 political parties have filed candidates for all 110 proportional representation (PR) seats.
The Election Commission received closed lists from 64 parties on December 28 and 29. Out of these, 22 parties nominated a full slate of 110 candidates, while 58 parties submitted candidates under 58 election symbols, according to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
The parties fielding candidates for all PR seats include Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Rastriya Swatantra Party, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Rastriya Janamorcha, Mongol National Organization, Democratic Socialist Party, CPN (ML), Labor Culture Party, Federal Democratic National Forum, Nepal Sadbhavana Party, Janamat Party, Miteri Party Nepal, and Nepal Communist Party (United).
In addition, parties such as Nepali Janata Dal, National Democratic Party, Nepal Communist Party (Maoist), and Progressive Democratic Party have submitted full PR lists through joint candidacies and combined lists.
The submissions were made in line with the inclusive representation requirements based on the 2021 census. The process continued late into the night as several parties finalized agreements on unity and cooperation. Out of 93 parties that applied to contest under the PR system, only 64 completed the nomination process.
