UML to Submit Closed PR Candidate List to Election Commission

Kathmandu, Dec 28 — The CPN (UML) has decided to submit a closed list of candidates for the proportional representation (PR) system to the Election Commission for the upcoming March 5 House of Representatives election.

The decision was taken at the party’s first secretariat meeting held on Sunday after its 11th national congress. Deputy General Secretary Lekhraj Bhatta said the party will finalize the PR candidate lists received from district and provincial committees and submit them to the Election Commission on Monday.

According to Bhatta, the meeting discussed the closed PR list presented by party Chairperson KP Sharma Oli. He added that the list may be revised if the chairperson finds it necessary.

During the meeting, Chairperson Oli expressed concern that the interim government had failed to ensure a secure environment for elections, claiming party leaders and cadres were unable to safely reach villages across the country.

The Election Commission has called on political parties to submit their closed PR candidate lists on Sunday and Monday as part of the election process.

The interim government, formed following the September 8–9 Gen-Z movement under Prime Minister Sushila Karki, is tasked with conducting fresh elections to the House of Representatives.
