PM Karki urges preservation of culture and traditions
Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has emphasized the need to preserve Nepal’s traditional culture and attire, stating that modernity should not come at the cost of national identity.
Speaking during a meeting with a delegation of the Tamu Hyula Chhoj Dhin Gurung National Council Council on Sunday, the Prime Minister said that while harmful cultural practices should be eliminated, original traditions and traditional dress must be protected.

Praising the Gurung traditional attire worn by the council representatives, Prime Minister Karki suggested that government employees could wear their traditional costumes at least one day a week in public offices.
She noted that many societies are struggling to define their identity after abandoning their cultural roots, adding that Nepal is rich in diverse traditions that should be safeguarded.
During the meeting, the council also invited Prime Minister Karki to attend the Tamu Lhosar programme scheduled for December 30 as the chief guest. The invitation was read out by the council’s General Secretary, Raju Gurung.
