TAAN, KATA Sign MoU to Promote Korean Tourism in Nepal

December 16, Kathmandu: With the aim of promoting South Korean tourism in Nepal, the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) and the Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The MoU was signed in the presence of the Korean Ambassador to Nepal Park Tae-young, by TAAN President Sagar Pandey and General Secretary Sonam Gyaljen Sherpa, and KATA Vice President Kim Beom-jae and General Secretary We Young Yang.
As per the agreement, KATA, in coordination with TAAN, will organize various programs, campaigns and promotional activities to attract more Korean tourists to Nepal. The MoU also includes cooperation in information sharing and technology support to enhance the safety of South Korean trekkers and tourists in Nepal, as well as initiatives to encourage Nepali tourists to visit South Korea.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Park said the MoU would contribute not only to tourism promotion but also to strengthening people-to-people relations between the two countries. He added that bilateral ties could be further expanded through tourism and the Employment Permit System (EPS).
KATA Vice President Kim expressed happiness over the partnership and voiced confidence that tourist exchanges between the two countries would increase in the coming days.
TAAN President Pandey emphasized the need to increase the number of direct flights between Nepal and South Korea, expressing optimism that the agreement would boost tourist arrivals. TAAN Chief Executive Officer Ramchandra Sedai said the safety of Korean tourists and trekkers would be ensured through the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) in coordination with the Nepal Tourism Board.
The event was attended by Korean business representatives, including Korea Association of Nepal President Cha Siu Won, and was coordinated by TAAN Joint Treasurer Lakpa Temba Sherpa.
