Former Olympian Jit Bahadur KC to Receive Rs 2.5 Million Cash Award
Kathmandu, Dec 9 – The government has decided to award former marathon runner and Olympian Jit Bahadur KC with a cash prize of Rs 2.5 million. KC is the first Nepali athlete to win an international medal.
Minister for Communication and Information Technology and government spokesperson Jagadish Kharel shared the decision while briefing the media on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting held on Monday. KC had won the bronze medal at the first Asian Athletics Championship held in Manila, the Philippines, in 1973.
The Cabinet also decided to list the Mehelkuna–Khatang–Ghumkhare triangular suspension bridge project in Surkhet as a project of national priority.
Similarly, prior approval has been granted to conduct an organization and management survey of the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and its subordinate offices.
An investigation commission has been formed under the leadership of Deepak Subedi, with Sharad Adhikari and Yogendranath Karmacharya as members, to study the implementation of Supreme Court orders related to the transport sector.
The meeting further approved the transfer of three Nepal Army colonels, the extension of the tenure of one brigadier general, and the special promotion of another brigadier general to the rank of major general.
The Cabinet also approved the organizational structure and staffing of the Office of the Auditor General and its subordinate offices. Joint Secretary Rajendra Kumar Paudel has been promoted to the vacant Secretary post and appointed as the Chief Secretary at the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in Koshi Province.
In another decision, the government approved the nomination of Dr Govinda Prasad Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, as a candidate for the ninth General Secretary of the Colombo Plan. The Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement with Mauritius has also been terminated.
The Cabinet has permitted the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation to establish the Irrigation Management Company Limited. Approval has also been given to transfer four Joint Secretaries from the Nepal Judicial Service.
Likewise, permission has been granted to conduct an organization and management survey of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and its subordinate bodies. Additionally, Secretary Dr Deepak Kumar Kharal will participate in a programme to be held in Thimphu, Bhutan, on December 15 and 16.
