Government Announces Support Package for Individuals Injured in Gen-Z Uprising

Kathmandu, Dec 8 — The government has moved forward with a comprehensive support plan for individuals injured during the ‘Gen-Z Uprising.’ A cabinet meeting held today endorsed the ‘Gen-Z Injured Relief Assistance Procedure 2082’, paving the way for educational, medical, and employment-related assistance for those wounded or disabled during the September protests, according to Communications and Information Technology Minister Jagadish Kharel.

The cabinet has also decided to confer martyr status on late journalist Suresh Rajak, who died during the demonstrations at Tinkune, Kathmandu, on March 28, 2025.

In another key decision, the government fixed the minimum purchase price of sugarcane at Rs 620 per quintal for the fiscal year 2025/26. Farmers will continue to receive a subsidy of Rs 70 per quintal as per existing provisions.

The meeting further approved the list of 27 families categorised as poor across ten districts, including Tehrathum, Nawalparasi (East and West), Parbat, Morang, and Sunsari.

Similarly, the cabinet endorsed the ‘Financial Procedures and Fiscal Responsibility (Second Amendment) Regulation 2082.’

Additionally, joint secretary Rajendra Kumar Paudel has been promoted to the vacant post of Secretary in the special category under the Nepal Administrative Service.
