Science Diplomacy between Nepal and Russia emphasized

Kathmandu, Nov 11: Various speakers have emphasized the importance of promoting science diplomacy to strengthen ties between scientists from Nepal and Russia.

Speaking at a discussion program titled “Nepal-Russia Scientific and Technical Relations: Building Trust and Collaboration through Science Diplomacy” held today, the participants expressed confidence that enhanced collaboration between scientists of both nations would contribute significantly to diplomatic relations. The event was jointly organized by the Russian House and the Nepal-Russia Science Society, where speakers highlighted the role of science and education in deepening bilateral diplomacy.

Chairperson of the Society, Ganesh Saha, noted that the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Russia in 1956 laid the foundation for mutual trust, respect, and scientific advancement through knowledge exchange in education, technology transfer, and research cooperation.

He further stressed the need to expand collaboration with Russia in areas such as science, technology, and space research. Former Ambassador Shambhuram Simkhada stated that Nepal-Russia relations should be viewed as a vital opportunity in the context of modern science and technology, calling for greater engagement of the younger generation in research and innovation.

Counselor of the Russian Embassy and Director of the Russian House, Anastasia Khokhlova, shared that Russia has been offering full scholarships with special incentives to Nepali students, and that cooperation between the two countries has become increasingly vibrant in the fields of science and technology.

Other speakers also underscored the need to elevate Nepal-Russia relations to new heights through the expansion of diplomatic ties, and the exchange of knowledge and research.
