On Air Station:

Call to demonetise Rs 1,000 and 500 notes

Kathmandu, Oct 19: The Nepal Communist Party has called the government for the demonetisation of all Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 banknotes.

Sharing the 17-point decisions of the Biplab-led Nepal Communist Party’s recent central committee meeting on Sunday, the party has called to demonetise banknotes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 to curb corruption in the country and has demanded the printing of new banknotes. Likewise, the party has decided to run an industry under the integrated ownership model to increase agricultural production.

The party has emphasised agricultural production in the past, and has hoped for better yields in this season’s monsoon crops. The Nepal Communist Party is holding talks with the CPN (Maoist Centre) and other communist forces to build a new communist centre in the post Gen-Z protests, the party’s general secretary Biplab said at a news conference in Kathmandu. “The communist movement cannot advance in an old-fashioned way.

Talks with the Maoist Centre were also initiated accordingly, as fresh debates were needed now,” he added. The party has argued that the unification of communist forces and the development of a new communist centre have become more imminent after the Gen-Z protests.
