KMC starts cleaning flood-affected areas

Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has started cleaning the flood-affected areas.

KMC stated that the metropolis’ police and cleaning staff have been mobilized for cleaning the mud and debris at local Balkhu, Teku, Bishnumati Corridor, among other areas affected due to flooding and inundation caused by incessant rain since Friday.

Metropolitan Police Force’s Deputy Superintendent Meen Bahadur Thapa said that cleaning works have been carried out in the flood-affected areas by 100 workers of the KMC Environment Management Department by using three JCBs, three jet machines and dumper.

Thapa stated that special flood-related cleaning work has been carried out in Balkhu Vegetable Market, in front of Sajha Petrol Pump, Teku Dobhan, Bansighat, Chyasal, Shankhamul, Laligurans Chowk of Narephat, and Bishnumati Corridor area.

He mentioned that today’s work remains incomplete as machines could not operate in Bansighat and Teku Dobhan areas due to excessive mud. ‘The mud is completely waterlogged. It is in such condition that it cannot be removed by shovel or handled by a machine. Therefore, cleaning work could not be done in some places today. We are prepared to complete all the remaining work tomorrow if it does not rain,’  Thapa said.
