Ilam landslide: 37 dead, 1 missing

Ilam: At least 37 people have been confirmed dead and one person remains missing in Ilam following floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall.

Nationwide, 40 people have lost their lives due to the recent monsoon-induced disasters, with Ilam being the worst affected district.

As per preliminary data from the Ilam District Administration Office, six people have died in Suryodaya Municipality—five in Manebhanjyang (Ward No. 1).

Six deaths have been reported in Ghosh, Ilam Municipality-6, where one person also remains missing in Balangaun.

Similarly, six people have died in Sandakpur Rural Municipality, three in Mangsebung Rural Municipality, eight in Deumai Municipality, eight in Maijogmai Rural Municipality, and one in Phakphokathum Rural Municipality, informed Chief District Officer Sunita Nepal.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with some injured airlifted by Nepali Army helicopters. However, most roads remain blocked and several bridges have been washed away. Many families have been displaced, and livestock buried under landslides, leaving life in Ilam severely disrupted.
