Govt declares holidays on Sunday and Monday due to increased risk of monsoon disasters
Kathmandu: The government has declared public holidays nationwide on Sunday and Monday (October 5 and 6), with the exception of disaster management and essential services, in view of the heightened risk of monsoon-related disasters.
In a notice issued today, the Ministry of Home Affairs explained that the decision was made due to ongoing rains, which may trigger natural disasters and disrupt road and air transport, affecting public mobility. The notice also emphasized the potential risk to life from such events.
The Ministry said it has received updates from the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, which forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country from today until October 6. The public has been urged to exercise special caution and take necessary precautions during this period.
