National Film Day being marked nationwide

Kathmandu: The 15 of Ashoj in the Nepal calendar is marked as the National Film Day every year.

On the occasion, cine artistes and filmmakers as well as people in the film industry celebrated the Day across the country today with fervor and enthusiasm. The National Film Day commemorates the historic day when the first Nepali film ‘Aama’ (Mother) was screened on 15 Ashoj 2022 B.S.

Film Development Board chairman Dinesh DC said that filmmakers across the country celebrated the Day as a festival. He said, ‘Considering the historical aspect of this special day, we had proposed to celebrate Film Day every year on 15 Ashoj.’

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has accepted our proposal, and with the decision of the Cabinet, we are officially celebrating Film Day.

Although a formal programme could not be held this year due to the occasion of Dashain, film artists are sharing their happiness on this day through ‘virtual’ means, DC said. The Nepali cinema has completed a journey of six decades on today itself.
