97 million revenue collected at Nepal-China Korala border in three days

September 18, Kathmandu: The Nhechung Customs Office in Mustang has collected Rs 97 million 64 thousand in revenue over three days. This revenue was gathered from goods imported through the Nepal-China northern Korala border crossing.

The Korala pass, which fully resumed operations 11 days ago, began full functionality on Monday following internal preparations and management at the office. According to Mustang Customs Chief Ramesh Khadka, a total of 161 electric cars and 85 cargo containers have arrived at the border from the Chinese side, loaded with goods cleared by Chinese customs and held at the Nhechung Customs Office for inspection and clearance.

Of the 85 containers halted for clearance at Mustang Customs, 45 have already undergone customs inspection and processing, Khadka stated. The mentioned customs revenue was collected from these 45 cleared cargo containers.

Additionally, two vehicles carrying Nepali goods for export to China have been cleared for departure from Mustang Customs. The exported items are handicraft materials. Among the containers loaded with goods imported from China targeting the Dashain festival, the 45 cleared containers have already proceeded to their destinations, while clearance for the remaining 40 containers is pending, according to Customs Chief Khadka.

Furthermore, the customs clearance for the 160 imported electric vehicles remains incomplete. Chief District Officer Vishnu Prasad Bhusal informed that none of the electric vehicles gathered at Mustang Customs from China have been cleared as of yet.

He attributed the delays in customs clearance to the limited number of staff at the office. Banks and financial institutions are required to open letters of credit (LC) for goods imported from China to facilitate clearance at Mustang Customs.
