Khaptad Baba’s ashram in dilapidated state

August 30, Kathmandu: The ashram of Khaptad Baba, located in the heart of Nepal’s renowned religious and tourist destination Khaptad, is in a dire condition. Leaking roofs have led to the decay of items inside, including Baba’s bed, clothes, books, utensils, and medicines, many of which are rusted or rotting.

The walls and doors are waterlogged, with mould and cobwebs creating a foul odour. The ashram’s surroundings are neglected, with overgrown bushes and animal dung near the entrance.

The guest house for vip visitors is also unclean, with decayed wood and rusted utensils. Despite minor repairs years ago, the ashram remains in disrepair. Khaptad Area Tourism Development Committee’s executive director, Khem Joshi, promised efforts to restore it.

Born in Jammu, the late Khaptad Baba lived in Khaptad for about 50 years, writing extensively on spirituality and science. The 225 sq km Khaptad region, with its 22 meadows and 36 lakes, needs better infrastructure to preserve its heritage.
