PM Oli’s China visit: SCO Summit and bilateral ties highlighted in Parliament

August 29, Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, addressing the Federal Parliament’s House of Representatives, announced his upcoming five-day visit to China from August 30 to September 3 at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The visit centres on attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, where Nepal has been a dialogue partner since 2016. PM Oli outlined that he will hold bilateral talks with President Xi Jinping and Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing, alongside attending dinners hosted by them.He will address the SCO Plus Summit on September 1 and meet leaders, including Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, Maldives’ President Mohamed Muizzu, and the prime ministers of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. The visit concludes with Oli attending the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in the Sino-Japanese War in Beijing.

Accompanied by his wife Radhika Shakya, ministers, and senior officials, Oli emphasised that the visit will strengthen Nepal-China relations, enhance Nepal’s SCO engagement, and promote national interests, elevating Nepal’s global stature.
