Preparations for Prime Minister’s China visit complete, meetings with Chinese and Russian presidents scheduled

Kathmandu: Preparations have been completed for the visit of the Nepali delegation led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit at the friendly invitation of Chinese  President Xi Jinping.

The summit of this organization, considered one of the world’s largest regional security-economic organizations, is considered to be an important opportunity for Nepal’s high-level presence to further strengthen Nepal-China relations and demonstrate Nepal’s proactivity in multilateral cooperation.

During the visit, Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as heads of state and government of other participating countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already made the program of the visit public through a press release on Wednesday, while the ministry has already held a briefing among the members of the visiting delegation in the presence of Prime Minister Oli at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar today.

 

The 23-member team including Prime Minister Oli was briefed on the detailed program and management aspects by the Ministry’s Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai and the Chief of Protocol Kumar Raj Kharel.

According to his secretariat, Prime Minister Oli will brief the House of Representatives on the visit on Friday.

Prime Minister Oli will leave for Tianjin  on Saturday morning to attend the SCO summit to be held in Tianjin  of China from August 30th  to the 3rd of September. The Foreign ministry said, Prime Minister Oli is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the evening of the same day.

Likewise, the Prime Minister will meet with Han Zheng, Vice President of China in Beijing on 2 September. The Prime Minister will also participate in commemorative events to be organized in Beijing to mark the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War on the 3rd of September.

Prime Minister Oli will address the SCO Plus Summit in Tianjin on the 1st of  September. On the sidelines of SCO Summit, the Prime Minister will meet some world leaders attending the Summit.
