Energy sector should be made main basis of job creation, investment: Chair Dahal

Kathmandu, Aug 27: Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has pointed out the need of developing energy sector as the main basis of employment creation and investment.

At the ‘Posta Bahadur Bogati Memorial National Energy Talks’ organised by Bogati Memorial Foundation here on Wednesday, Chair Dahal opined that the country has not been able to gain expected benefits for lack of full utilization of long-term potentials in the energy sector.

Also the former Prime Minister, he laid emphasis on the need of making the energy sector as the main basis of prosperity. “Nepal has become successful to export power in present due to our policy-level consistency,” he mentioned.

Similarly, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, shared that involvement of regulators, operators and developers of energy sector in a single organisation is a problem.

President of Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal, Ganesh Karki, underlined that the government should take the energy sector seriously and take policy-level initiatives as the main basis of the development of the country.

President of Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Kamalesh Kumar Agrawal, pointed out the lack of coordination among inter-ministries while Chairperson of Federation of Nepalese Industries and Commerce, Khim Lal Bhandari, stressed that people’s participation was indispensible in the energy sector.

Foundation Chair Barsha Man Pun pointed out the need of construction of water-reservoir projects as run-of-the-river projects could not only fulfill the demands of power in future.
