PM Oli says government is committed to permanent irrigation solution in Terai region

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said the government is committed to ending Terai’s dependence on rainfall by ensuring a permanent irrigation solution.

Sharing an update on social media, the Prime Minister expressed relief that 76.54 percent of paddy fields in eight districts of Madhesh Province had been planted after rainfall in recent days.

He recalled visiting drought-hit areas where crops were dying and said the government had declared the region disaster-affected and launched relief measures.

PM Oli stated that short-term efforts, including the installation of 500 deep borings, are underway, while the Sunkoshi-Marine Diversion Project aims to offer a long-term solution.

He said the government’s goal is to secure food production, ensure farmers’ well-being, and achieve lasting water security for the Terai region.
