Medical Entrepreneur Durga Prasai Released on Bail in Two Separate Cases

Kathmandu, August 4: The Patan High Court has ordered the release of medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai on bail in two separate cases — one involving banking offenses and the other related to violent protests linked to a royalist movement.

On Monday, a division bench of Justices Sudarshan Dev Bhatta and Munendra Prasad Awasthi granted Prasai bail of Rs 2.5 million in the banking offense case. The court also considered medical grounds as part of the basis for his release.

In a separate ruling today, another bench comprising Justices Tanka Prasad Gurung and Dilli Ratna Shrestha ordered Prasai’s release on a bail of Rs 300,000 in connection with a case related to violent demonstrations that occurred in March under the banner of the royalist campaign.

The Kathmandu District Court had earlier remanded Prasai to custody for trial in a case that included charges of crimes against the state, attempted murder, and other criminal offenses. However, the Patan High Court issued the bail orders after reviewing a petition filed by Prasai challenging the district court’s decision.
