Good governance prerequisite to democracy: NC leader Koirala
Morang: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said good governance is an essential element to strengthen democracy in the country.
Speaking at the Mukti Prasad-Yadunath Chapagain Award handover ceremony here Sunday, leader Koirala expressed the view that if the leaders of political parties are honest, it would ensure successful implementation of the federal republic. Member of the House of Representatives, Koirala urged the party line not to forget principles, otherwise democracy will face crisis.
The programme was organized the Gurans Library in Biratnagar. In another context, the NC leader mentioned that he does not think the current government should change but it must work transparently and accountably.
‘The citizens have piled hope on the current coalition government, so it is responsible for elevating the living standard of citizens,’ he reminded, adding that role played by Yadunath Chapagain was instrumental in achieving democracy in the country.
We can follow the path Chapagain treaded. Chairman of the Library, Ranjit Prakash Budhathoki, former chairman Deepak Chapagain, and litterateur Dinesh Raj Subedi spoke on the significance of the Gurans Library and the role of the Chapagain family in the democratic frontier.
The learning facility was established at Baragachi, Biratnagar-4 in 2027 BS. Former minister Hari Sapkota, Mohammad Ansari, and Dr Pramila Gachhadar were honored on the occasion.
