Library’s role instrumental in expanding public understanding about party: NC President Deuba

Patan (Lalitpur), July 21; Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba appreciated party’s general secretary Gagan Thapa for his leadership in managing the library.

At a programme organised here on Monday by the NC Library and Party Department of the Study Resource Centre to honour the contributors of the library establishment, Deuba said NC has better principles than other competitive parties, and the role of the library would be an instrument in expanding public understanding of the party.

“The library is rich with priceless books and resources. Friends would utilise the library to break the narrative that NC leaders and cadres do not read. With this in place, friends would get along with the party’s principles, ideals and transfer the knowledge to others. The oldest party can muster a majority if we make all friends, including those of the media”.

The library operation and management will incentivise party and party cadres, the former PM noted. Vice-President Dhanraj Gurung said that as study is a key to expand knowledge, the series of conflict, dispute and destruction will increase in the absence of study. NC general secretary Thapa said the party’s departments have changed their working style of late.

“The departments are getting active. The premises of the party’s central office should be a centre for brainstorming. We have paid attention to how to link the knowledge production to the results. We should be able to address the questions and challenges threatening us to discussed in the books. We are ready to learn and internalize new things about society by preserving the history”, he added.

He shared that a fund of Rs 10 million has been instituted to construct and run the library. Also speaking on the occasion were assistant general secretary duo, Mahalaxmi Upadhyay (Dina) and Bhishma Raj Angdambe, treasurer Umesh Shrestha, and central member and centre coordinator Ajaya Babu Shivakoti. At the event, Deuba launched a book authored by the Chairperson of Green City Hospital, Lok Bahadur Tandon.

He honored Pratap Paudel, Yubaraj Pandey, Shanker Tiwari, Manojmani Acharya, Raghab Acharya and Dil Bahadur Maharjan, among others, in recognition of their support in establishing the party library.
