On Air Station:

Coordination with China to be enhanced for early warning on natural disasters

Kathmandu, July 9: Necessary coordination with neighbouring China will be enhanced in information collection and disaster-induced damage reduction, considering the glaciers in the upper catchment area of the rivers flowing through Nepal, causing extensive damage in the country.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has decided to enhance coordination for information collection and disaster management work, shared Chief of the NDRRMA, Dinesh Bhatta, at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, chaired by the Prime Minister, decided that the Ministry of Home Affairs will make arrangements to provide immediate relief to the families of those who lost their loved ones and missing in the Rasuwa floods under the prevailing law, and the Ministry of Health and Population to arrange for free treatment for the injured.

He informed that the meeting decided to coordinate with China through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to operate the Rasuwagadhi border crossing after the Miteri Bridge connecting Nepal and China was washed away and traffic came to a halt. Similarly, a decision was taken to coordinate with the concerned bodies of China for a necessary study to identify the causes of the disaster.

He said that a detailed damage assessment of the floods will be carried out, China will be requested to reconstruct the Miteri Bridge, and other infrastructure repairs will be carried out through the concerned ministry.
