Government, private sector share commitment for tourism revival

Kathmandu: The government and private sector have expressed shared commitment to revive the tourism sector of the country.

At a discussion held here today on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and coordination of the Nepal Tourism Board, heads and representatives of the key stakeholders expressed the commitment to work collectively for the restoration of tourism industry.

Noting that Nepal’s tourism sector has also experienced colossal loss and challenges because of Gen Z protests, the speakers shared that tourism sector however has moved ahead to the path of reconstruction and progress.

Secretary at the Ministry, Hari Prasad Mainali shared ministry’s commitment to remove the policy hurdles for reviving the tourism sector while emphasizing on fostering collaboration between the government and private sector for this. ‘Immediate measures have been initiated to make necessary reforms to revitalize the tourism sector. We are working to promote Nepal as a safe destination by improving Nepal’s image and maximizing the use of information technology’, he said.

Vice President of the Nepal Tourism Board, Ram Prasad Sapkota highlighted the need to publicize a ‘tourism package’ to activate this season. He emphasized the need to convey the message that Nepal is safe through embassies, non-residential Nepalis, and other networks.

Chairperson of the Hotel Association of Nepal, Binayak Shah assured full-fledged hospitality and reception to the guests despite loss and damage in the hotel industry. ‘The adventure tourism has not seen much impact. Since the area is safe, the number of tourists is increasing’, he shared.

Chairperson of the Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATA) Kumar Mani Thapaliya stressed the need to spread the message that Nepal is a safe destination for tourists. On the occasion, Board’s Chief Executive Officer Deepak Raj Joshi cited examples of tourism revival in Nepal during different critical times in the past. Also today the Board held discussions with the chiefs, general managers and representatives of the Five Star and Four Star hotels.

During the discussion, the hotel entrepreneurs expressed their readiness to welcome the guests provided that the state facilitated it.
